Medicare May Expand Hearing Aid Coverage in 2026

A proposal in Congress would add hearing aids to standard Medicare benefits.

January 18, 2026|via HLAA

A new bill in Congress could bring hearing aid coverage to Medicare beneficiaries as early as 2026. Currently, Medicare does not cover hearing aids, leaving millions of seniors to pay out of pocket.

What the Bill Proposes

The Medicare Hearing Aid Coverage Act would add hearing aids and related services to Medicare Part B. This would include the cost of hearing aids, fitting services, and follow-up appointments.

Current Costs

Right now, the average pair of hearing aids costs $4,000-6,000. Many seniors simply go without because they cannot afford this expense. Studies show that untreated hearing loss is linked to cognitive decline and social isolation.
